About SHRI MATA VASHNO DEVI UNIVERSITY:

The JAMMU AND KASHMIR SHRI MATA VAISHNO DEVI UNIVERSITY ACT, 1999 founded Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). ACT No. XII of 1999, dated May 12, 1999, by the J&K State Legislature as an independent, highly technical, and entirely residential university.

When the University was opened by the then-honorable President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on August 19, 2004, it began operating as an academic institution. Dr. Kalam also gave the University students the opening lecture.

The Jammu and Kashmir Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act, 1986 of the J&K State Legislature, established the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, an independent Board, in August 1986. The J&K government also contributes money to the university. The university receives funding from the TEQIP-III Project of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, which is supported by the World Bank.

The University has received UGC approval in accordance with Sections 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act of 1956.

While the Council of Architecture recognises the University's architecture programme, the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) does not.

SHRI MATA VASHNO DEVI UNIVERSITY FACILITIES:
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University offers seven hostels, of which 5 are for boys and 3 are for females, all of which are conveniently close to the administration building, the medical aid center, the bank, the post office, the cafeteria, and the classrooms. The hostel offers a wide range of amenities to make living there comfortable and entertaining for all college students. The rooms have modern infrastructure, are well-ventilated, and are ethereal.

The hostel features a fully equipped mess, kitchen, dining room, safe drinking water, and sports facilities (T.T., Badminton, Chess, Carrom, etc.). In order to ensure that physically challenged college students may access all areas of the girls' and boys' hostels, the university created special centers in each area, including ramps, restrooms, roomy rooms, etc. University provides separate gym facilities at all of the female dorms and a centralised gym for all guys that is equipped with the most recent health technology in order to maintain the fitness and health of the students.
