ABOUT SASTRA DEEMED UNIVERSITY:
With a modest start in 1984, SASTRA's development over the following 36 years is evidence of its dedication to creating the University envisioned in its guiding model. Currently, SASTRA is one of India's top universities, offering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in the fields of education, engineering, management, law, and the sciences. Under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, the University Grants Commission granted it Deemed-to-be-University status in 2001. At Kumbakonam, SASTRA also operates the Srinivasa Ramanujan Centre (SRC), an off-campus facility authorised by the MHRD.

As a complete university, its training and extension programmes are supported through research engagements, consulting projects, and training opportunities. According to the UGC's categorization of Universities for Graded Autonomy Rules, 2018, it is a Category I University and had been re-accredited by NAAC (fourth cycle) with a maximum grade of "A++" (3.76/4.00). The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), UK has granted worldwide accreditation to 12 of SASTRA's engineering programmes for a duration of 9 years, recognising the academic excellence of SASTRA. With a current position of 22 in 2022, SASTRA has consistently been ranked among the top 40 Universities. The Government of India also acknowledges it as a Scientific & Industrial Research Agency.
