Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, according to an Act of Parliament known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University Act, 2013. In the context of aviation, the university is envisioned as the top institution of higher learning, delivering cutting-edge and important research to advance the aviation sector in India.

The institution is authorised by the Act of Parliament to provide diplomas, degrees, and postgraduate degrees in the area of civil aviation. Aiming to provide worldwide expertise that is tailored to local requirements, partnerships are also being formed with the top international universities and aviation institutes.

The goal of RGNAU is to facilitate and develop aviation studies, teaching, training, and research.
