About NORTH EASTERN HILL UNIVERSITY:
Act 24 of 1973, which was enacted by the Parliament, led to the establishment of the University. was the only operating institution in North East India during its early years. However, North Eastern Hill University lost its authority over the whole north as a result of the growth of Mizoram University and Nagaland University. Although it only functions in Meghalaya, it is still connected to the Institute of Science and Technology of Meghalaya.

The institution has been operating for for forty years, making it one of India's Central Universities with the longest history. Initially operating out of rented property, North Eastern Hill University was eventually able to acquire two homes, one in Nongthymmai and one in Bijni. From these locations, the University conducted business until 2004. The University slowly started relocating to its own 1225-acre site in Umshing in 2005. Since then, the institution has constructed several research centres on the campus as well as cutting-edge amenities.
According to the guidelines, people who have distinguished themselves and have made a significant contribution to their professions and fields of study—such as engineering, business, science and technology, the fine arts, the armed forces, media, literature, public administration, etc.—are qualified to serve as "professors of practice."

Admission Process for the NORTH EASTERN HILL UNIVERSITY:
The qualifying requirements for admission to NORTH EASTERN HILLUNIVERSITY are as follows:
• The applicant must have completed their 10+2 in the science field, or its equivalent, with 45% overall in PCM from a recognised board.
• Students in the SC/ST category are given a 5% relaxation by the university.
• To get admitted to the B.Tech programme, candidates must pass the Jee Mains exam.

A dynamic campus library aims to provide all the books required and stay up with advances in science and education. The Ministry of Development was involved in the creation of the main library on the site. Along with 230,000 volumes, the library also has 38,000 bound periodicals. Additionally, it has subscriptions to both national and international periodicals and publications. The library is open to teachers and other staff members of the school.
There are 23 hostels operating on campus in total. Of the 23 hostels, 11 are designated for women and 12 are for men. Professors and instructors work as wardens in each of the 23 dormitories. A maximum of 90 to 100 students can reside in each hostel. Some hostels have a maximum capacity of fifty students.
