About NATIONAL LAW SCHOOL OF INDIAN UNIVERSITY:

In 1986, NLSIU became India's first national law university. In order to pioneer legal education changes and underpin the reformation of the Indian legal system via research and policy initiatives, the country's top law school was founded.

As a result, with the beginning of the first batch in 1988, the NLSIU was one of the first schools in the nation to launch the five-year integrated legal degree at the undergraduate level.

And for more than 30 years, the University has unquestionably been a national leader in the area of legal education. Strong partnerships between legal scholars, the Bar, the Bench, and the State Government of Karnataka have made this long-standing record possible.

The National Law School of India Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986), which was published in the official Gazette on August 29, 1987, provided the legal basis for the establishment of NLSIU. This Act granted the University, which is located on the campus of Bengaluru University, total administrative and academic autonomy. It serves as the fundamental governing document for the University and everyone connected to it.

The General Council is presided over by the Chairman of the Indian Bar Council, and the Chief Justice of India serves as the university's Chancellor. Members of the Bar Council of India, the judiciary, the government of Karnataka, and the professors from the law school sit on the university's governing boards.
