About KANNADA UNIVERSITY:

In 1991, the Karnataka government founded Kannada University, Hampi, by the Kannada University Act 1991.

Since the mid-1980s, there has been a desire for such a university in Karnataka. To investigate the claim, the Karnataka government formed a panel chaired by SadashivaWodeyar. After consultation with numerous intellectuals, education professionals, political thinkers, social activists, literary luminaries, and people's representatives, this Committee issued a report recommending the formation of the much-needed Kannada University.

Kannada University is close to Hampi, a historical site. The word HAMPI conjures up mythical and historical associations. People have resided here since the Stone Age, as evidenced by the cave drawings left here for posterity.
Historically, this location has been the home of various religions, including Buddhism, Jainism, Virashaivism, Vaishnavism, Islam, and several prominent religious cults that still exist today, such as the Huligemma cult, Galemma cult, Mylaralinga cult, and Balabasava cult. This has been an important location for numerous kingdoms, including the Hoysalas, Sindhs, and Kapilas, not to mention the Vijayanagara dynasty, which founded here and ruled over most of South India for nearly three centuries.

To foster multidisciplinary Kannada study on culture, society, economy, and politics. To make research materials (both discursive and material) available to Karnataka Studies academics. To investigate society's language (textual, oral, performative, and discursive) practices in general, and marginalised populations in particular.
